How official tournament-app ticket transfers work
All 2026 World Cup tickets are delivered exclusively through the official FIFA Tickets mobile application. Paper tickets, PDFs, and email-based delivery are not supported. Understanding the transfer flow is essential for both buyers purchasing on the resale market and original ticket holders selling on.
The standard transfer flow
The seller, who holds the ticket in their FIFA Tickets app under their registered FIFA-account email, opens the ticket and selects "Transfer". The seller enters the buyer's FIFA-account email. The buyer receives an in-app notification and a confirmation email prompting acceptance. Once the buyer accepts, the ticket transfers to their account and is available for entry at the venue.
Gate-side verification matches the FIFA Tickets account name to government-issued photo ID. Both must be present at entry.
Three common failure modes
Email mismatch. Transfers fail silently when the recipient email entered by the seller does not exactly match the buyer's FIFA-account email. Common discrepancies include "gmail.com" versus "googlemail.com", hyphens substituted for periods, or alternative addresses associated with a single account. The transfer does not bounce — it simply never arrives. Resolution: buyers should verify the exact email displayed inside their FIFA Tickets app and provide that string at checkout.
Outdated app version. FIFA pushes silent updates to the Tickets app throughout the tournament. Older versions occasionally fail to display incoming transfers. Resolution: force-close the app, install any pending update from the device's app store, and reopen.
Multi-device sign-in. When a single FIFA Tickets account is signed in across multiple devices, the active ticket appears on the most recently used device only. Buyers attending matches with the wrong device will be unable to display the ticket at the gate. Resolution: sign out on all devices except the one being taken to the venue.
Implications for buyers
The transfer event is the moment of risk in any resale transaction. Until the buyer accepts the transfer in their app, the ticket has not changed hands. Resale platforms operating an escrow model — including this one — release seller funds only after the buyer confirms receipt, providing financial protection against transfer failures.
